Most cameras come with rechargeable batteries, but it is advisable to always purchase a second set so you never run out in the field. With your digital you need to buy memory cards. At a minimum you will need I GB but I recommend a maximum of 2GB, as they can easily corrupt and you can lose all your hard work - multiple cards are the best option. Remember your' camera body will need regular cleaning with proper camera cleaning equipment - not a dirty handkerchief. It will need to be serviced on occasions to clean the sensor. A body that fits comfortably in your hand, has 6-12 mega pixels, at least lhree frames per second with multiple options for focusing, white balance (function that compensates for the different shades of light), meter reading for exposure and bracketing functions, as well as depth of view pre-viewer, automatic exposure and focusing locks: as with everything, the more functions available, the more you pay
