Christmas Holiday Safari To Meru National Park Camping Expedition 2 Nights 3 Days 24th – 26th December 2014Highlights: Former home of Joy and George Adamson, Swimming, the grave of Elsa the lioness, Adamson’s Falls, Big 5 Game viewing, Stunning views of Mt Kenya, Bird watching, Camping, Scenery, Photography, Nature TrailSituated in the old Northern Frontier District, straddling the equator and bisected by 13 rivers and numerous mountain-fed streams, Meru National Park is wild and one of the most beautiful parks in Kenya. A green paradise compared to the dry savannah of Kenya’s parks, this was the wilderness into which George & Joy Adamson released Elsa the lioness, creating the much-loved film ‘Born Free’. It has diverse scenery from woodlands to wide-open plains, meandering riverbanks, hilly landscapes and rich grey alluvial volcanic soil deposits.Three large rivers border the park: The Tana to the South, the Ura to the South-west and the Rojeweru to the East.Day 1: Wednesday 24th December 2014Meeting point outside Steers opposite Jeevanjee Gardens at 0700hrs. A short briefing on the safari will follow before we proceed to Meru National Park with a prompt departure at 0710hrs. We will drive through the breath taking view of the Central Highlands through Sagana – Karatina, not to mention the vast and admirable wheat ranches on the plains of Nanyuki and Timau. Lunch stop over on the way at own cost.ETA in Meru N. Park is 1700hrs. After setting up camp, time permitting we will proceed for a late afternoon game drive. Dinner, camp fire and overnight stay at the campsite (Dinner)Day 2: Christmas Day Thursday 25th December 2014 After breakfast, we spend the better part of morning in the Park. Activities include game drives, guided walks, bush meals, fishing among many other activities. This untamed wilderness is renowned for its Elephant herds, rare northern endemic species with fantastic flora and fauna. We will also be in search of Big Cats and the elusive Rhinos in the nearby sanctuary Elsa’s Kopje. We retire back to our campsite to enjoy a late afternoon swim at the only swimming pool found in all KWS managed Parks.Dinner, camp fire and overnight stay at the campsite (Breakfast, Picnic Lunch & Christmas Dinner)Day 3: Friday 26th December 2014After breakfast, break camp and exit the park for Nairobi arriving late in the afternoon.
