Absa Bank Kenya PLC Board appoints Anne Nyongesa as new Company Secretary

Nyongesa takes over from Wilson Murage who has retired to pursue other interests.

“The Board of Directors of Absa Bank Kenya PLC (‘Absa Kenya’) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Anne Nyongesa as the Company Secretary with effect from February 28, 2025. We welcome Ms. Nyongesa to this role and to the Board,” said Board Chairman Charles Muchene.

Rich experience in Legal and Governance

Before joining Absa Kenya, Nyongesa held various leadership roles in legal, governance and company secretarial affairs in the financial services sector. The Board is confident in her abilities, citing her strong background in corporate governance and regulatory compliance.

Nyongesa is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 17 years post admission experience. She is also a Certified Public Secretary (Kenya) and holds multiple academic and professional qualifications including:

  • Master of Laws (LL.M) – University of South Africa
  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) – University of Nairobi
  • Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K)
  • Member of the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS)

She also holds a practising certificate as a Company Secretary issued under the Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya Act (Chapter 534, Laws of Kenya).

Murage’s departure after a notable tenure

Nyongesa takes over from Wilson Murage who was appointed Interim Company Secretary in October 2023 and confirmed as substantive Company Secretary on May 28, 2024.

Murage assumed the role after the resignation of Gakumo who had been Absa Kenya’s Company Secretary for four and a half years, from April 2019.

“We wish Mr. Murage all the best as he moves on to his next chapter,” the Board said.This is a new beginning.
